Music Blogs Disappearing suggestions

It seems that apidshareray has been deleting usicmay files. Oggerblay has been shutting down sites. My suggestion is to use Pig Latin, instead of naming Artist & Album titles.
I would like this Post to be for suggestions and ideas on how to stop this madness. Also, if you had a blog that this happened to, let us know if you've started up again and where can we find you.

Your Pal,

Doug

I have always named my files something other than the name of the the artist or title of the album they contain. I used to name my posts something different as well and only started doing so to help on Aggregators such as this site.

I've, pretty much, put The Tuna Melt on hold for the time being to see how this all pans out. A move to Opera may be in my future.

Two of my favorites are gone: Kelly's Lounge Soundz (KellyB) and Banattan (azzul). If anyone knows if/where they've relocated, please reply here.

Thanks from Sherri

As easy as it is to blame Google/Blogspot and Rapidshare, the real culprits are the music nazi's who file hundred's of notice's of copyright infringement with those entities.

See: http://www.chillingeffects.org/

They have no choice but to delete the files. Repeat offenders are subject to having their blogs shut down - again, the host (usually Google/Blogspot) has no choice as they face myriads of expensive lawsuits and legal sanctions from government prosecutors.

I found out the hard way not to advertise my blog on some of the "aggregators" because they are patrolled by the music nazi's and it draws their attention to you. Even it you don't, search engines will pick up on you (and your posts) sooner or later.

I had to take Swank Living, my blog, private which cured the problem, but traffic is 1/10th what it was. Still, my loyal visitors remain and I can continue to enjoy keeping up my blog. I'm afraid that in the current climate this is the only option we have other than to close up shop as so many have.

Hi Doug, I an Veen from Australia and I subscribe to your blog.Your post got me interested. Although my blog is still around (touch wood as I am fairly new in this game), I have had two pings, as I call it from blogger....I get monitored it seems, eventhough I blog both Hindi and English LPs. I would like some suggestions to as to how to hide my links from the those so called do-gooders web patrolers!

baikinange said...

All is quiet for the moment at Schadenfreudian Therapy, it's been a few weeks since I have received any notifications of complaints. I think I have deliberately chosen really obscure albums to post lately, though one of the 15 I was told to take down was a comedy album by Davey Bold on Norman records. Go figure. I think blogs like these will help loyal fans locate their favorites after they are forced to relocate.

I'm gonna take Trader Vic's advice and leave a contact email. If you've moved to a new blog, want to be listed here and want to let me know privately, email me at yourpaldoug@gmail.com

got tagged with just under 100 "infringements". If that happens again I will post only at the other place and the masses will have to do without. I changed some of the settings to remove the blog from the search engines. Hope that does the trick. Oh and btw only a handfull of the 100 were not oop.

Atthay Ucksays [transklation:"that sucks".].

Yeah, it's happened to a lot of music hosting blogs recently, many of which just got too easily noticed by copyright holders.

I use Opera Unite and only allow access by invitation - still have to prep my blog to list the available albums but I have a few friends testing and so far so good.

Also, Opera has an option to host your web from your own PC too - worth exploring.

Your Pal Doug said...

I've never had any problems, but then again I only put one album at a time and remove it for the next. I have a Yahoo Website and my own storage space. Have you tried Soulseek? You can share with everyone or just who is on your user list. If they ask, I generally allow to see the folder from my computer that I allow to see. I've been on it for years and have met a lot of nice people. If you sign up, send me a message. My user name is Your Pal Doug

Hi folks -- Have just been told of this forum. Altho there were ominous signs that the days of Kellys Lounge Soundz were numbered the close down still came as a shock to me. Am still deciding whether to do a phoenix or just float off and disappear into cyberspace for ever more. Have ideas tho. If there is a reincarnation may be called "Soundz Bistro & Bar". Keep watching. Meantime all the old 670 Kellys Lounge Soundz postings are still there in Yahoo's cache. Download links etc still active! Probably won't be there for long so better get moving. Cheers, KellyB.

Your Pal Doug said...

Hey Kelly,
How do we find your Yahoo Cache?

KellyB said...

Kelly here again -- For Yahoo page one click on my "KellyB said...". Then on "cache" at the end of each tag line. Some are dead, but others are not. Just seems random. Try 100 for instance. "Bud Shank -- Cal Dreaming". It's still up. Cheers, KellyB

Don said...

@KellyB,
Hi Kelly, Don here - hope you remember me, I'm the one that used to try to let you know whenever any of our favorite artists passed away... grim work, but someone's gotta do it!
I'm glad that some of your music is still available, but many of us miss you! A link is just a link is just a link - but your stories, biographies, and tributes brought it alive for us. What I'm saying is - you have to come back!

And by the way - I hope you're still betting on the ponies! ;-)

ez said...

I have to agree with Don. I miss so many of the sites that catered to the music I love--jazz and pop standards, vocals, classic soundtracks, etc. Part of the fun was reading the posts about music I already had. It was great to see something and think, "Oh, I love that record too!" I marvel at, and never cease to be grateful for, all of you who took the time to share so much.

Mindy said...

I too am missing so many of these great sites! Glad to hear from Kelly B - will keep a look out for Soundz Bistro.
Anyone heard anything about banattan (azzul), another favorite?

Don said...

@ez - your taste and mine are pretty well aligned, I think!

@ Mindy - I noticed that Sherri above asked about azzul, and I was also a fan - let's hope he turns up again as well!!!

@Doug - please excuse all of us for possibly hijacking this comments thread ;-) It's just that we're all passionate about the subject, and we owe you a million thanks for giving us a place to talk.

Yes I did! :)

I merged my 3 blogs into one (700 posts)

I don't have a cure meself regarding the blogspot/RS bans except I totally stopped using Rapidshare as they're easily the most targeted host around.

They are finished. Marketshare droped to 35-40% one year ago to 10-15% today.
A shame because it's one of the fastest.

Going private is a solution.
Using slsk is another one but not as fun as having a blog imo.

I only use initials on all my files, never any names, or even partial names. I use divshare free service to host and haven't had any problems. All my files are available from the beginning of Mongoloid and library concoction is hosted there as well. I use junk emails for account sign up. If I use up space on one free account, I just sign up another email for 5gb more of storage space. There is a 10gb/month download limit per account, but I don't have the traffic to worry about that.

Always hated rapidshare. Old days, they put a limit, using their free option, of 1 download about every 20-40 minutes. Now, ever since they have started their "The anti-waiting company" marketing campaign they have become the "anti-free" company as I have about a 5% success rate in DLing using their free option. It has made many of my favorite blogs useless. I hope more people follow Paul's lead and drop RS for good.

As for good blogs to find....

Great aggregator, great blogs.

May I recommend to bloggers making a Facebook page for their blog? I have more followers on FB than I did as Blogger followers. Should my blog disappear overnight I can let them all know my new address.
I also disabled the search engine function on Schadenfreudian Therapy posts, which means traffic on my blog had decreased by about 20%. Tough. The true music fans know where to find me, at least until Google blogger decides to turn up the heat on all of us.

Licorice Pizza!!! Oh happy day!

Swank Daddy said...

Sadly, Licorice Pizza got nailed by the music nazis and is out of business already. There's a major round of saturation bombing going on by the RIAA and IFPI since the latter part of March.

There has been a flood of DMCA complaints filed with Google/Blogspot causing "takedown" notices on boatloads of sharity posts. Also, unprecidented number of blogs being entirely shut down by Google/Blogspot.

It's easy to blame Google/Blogspot, but they must respond to these complaints.

Your Pal Doug said...

I'm so sorry.

Hi Doug. My blog was removed last Monday. In my infinite wisdom I just did it again and the fallout has been horrendous! Already today I have received takedowns on 2 of my posts (both out of print) on the new blog. (http://risenphoenix.blogspot.com)
I have settings at "no" for adding the blog to blogger listings and also "no" to letting search engines find my blog so how did the bullseye end up on my forehead again???? Any ideas?

Your Pal Doug said...

My music is on my own Yahoo site and stored by Yahoo until I delete it.
I've always just shared one thing at a time and nobody else can delete it. I've never used any other storage sites. So far, I hear that Mediafire is still okay.
You might also want to try Soulseek.

Martini Mistress said...

Thank you, Doug. Since I left the first comment 4 more posts have been taken down - guess the end is near once again. Mediafire took down some of my links (other blog) so I don't know how safe it is anymore. I'm in limbo right now, but I'll let you know what I do and what measure of success (if any) I have. Regards.

Swank Daddy said...

The inquisition continues. My own blog, Swank Living, along with HOSII, TOP, Nice and Easy and God only knows who else were whacked by Blogger today. I see Junebug got it again.

Sad. Very sad.

Martini Mistress said...

Just heard from The Macs that HOSII was blasted, now I see Swank Daddy's comments and I really feel sick! Hell's bells people, what is going on? Even my Christmas blog got the blog bullies axe - busy little bas----s! I'm leaving my e-mail address (Doug, if that's OK otherwise delete my comment) lifesapitch918@gmail.com just in case anyone wants to get in touch. I'm headed for the margarita I mixed in a 55-gallon drum! Best regards to all of you!

Noticed that budd-schifrin.blogspot.com is gone. Budd put together some interesting compilations. And he did announce a semi-retirement from blogging. Hope he shows up on one of our networking sites.

Oh, look what a net search came up with: http://filetram.com/budd-schifrin.

Collect them all while you can huh?

I've send an email to Oracle for an inviation to: http://musicisthemainthing.blogspot.com/

Haven't heard anything! Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for an explination

Your Pal Doug said...

Be patient, Oracle is up to something. That is all I can say.

Your Pal Doug said...

Someone should petition Blogger and stop this nonsense. Only emails from official copyright offices should cause concern. Then a communication to the blog owner. Next the blog owner should be the one to take down infringements. If that fails, only then should Blogger remove it. Doesn't this fall under freedom of speech or historical archive resources? I don't know much about law, but maybe someone else here does. Just a thought. I'll sign the petition if it gets written up.

How do i get in touch with Hooked on stereophonics? Anyone know?

Swank Daddy said...

How to get invited to "private" blogs?

It would help if you had an email link in your "profile" so bloggers could send you an invitation. There are several people above I tried to "invite" but a check of their profiles doesn't result in a link. It's easy (and free) to set up an email account with Google or Yahoo.

Hi everyone. This theme or music blogs disappearing is 6 years old. Was that the last gasp for shutting them down?

The next wave is on. Eclanage was shut down on Monday, Days of Broken Arrows was starting to get the pinch and voluntarily shut down today. FEZ and ALWAYSBACK went silent at the end of June. Surfadelic went without warning months ago.
